De la Rua had initially filed a lawsuit against the ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ hit maker in NYC, claiming that he built the “Shakira” brand, but he discontinued that action to pursue his claim in California, the New York Daily News reported.
In her court declaration, which was made public on Tuesday, the singer asserted that de la Rua had “explicitly” told both her and her mum that he was not her business partner, in a January 2011 email series.
The son of the former president of Argentina wrote, in a copy of the Jan. 16, 2011 email attached as an exhibit, that he was not Shakira’s partner in coquito or any of her other companies and she is the sole owner and beneficiary of her companies.
He also allegedly said, in a related email to the mum-of-one, dated Jan. 15, 2011 and provided to the court, that he is not a partner in any of her companies.
