The actress's dismay soon turned to pride when her promising rock star son told her his big news
Denise Welch's son Matthew Healy will miss his mum's wedding on Saturday - because he's supporting the Stones
As wedding-dodging excuses go, this is a pretty good one.
Denise
Welch’s eldest son, Matt, has had to cancel his flights to Portugal to
see his mum marry her fiance Lincoln Townley… because he’s supporting
the Rolling Stones.
Matt’s band, The 1975, have garnered an
impressive word-of-mouth fanbase over the past six months and will be
joining Mick, Ronnie and Co at Hyde Park on Saturday.
As the Loose
Woman star walks up the aisle, the rather hot 24-year-old Mancunian
will be gargling lemon and honey (probably) ahead of the biggest gig of
the alternative rockers’ career.
I’m told: “On the one hand,
Denise was absolutely gutted when Matt rang and told her he wouldn’t be
attending her big day but on the other, she was absolutely thrilled. Denise Welch and Lincoln Townley
“Den is immensely proud of Matt, especially because he’s done
all this off his own back with no help or special favours from her.
“As much as she would love Matthew to be there on Saturday, she realises you don’t turn down the Rolling Stones.”
Matthew
is the frontman of the band, which formed in Manchester 11 years ago
and scored a top 20 hit earlier this year with Chocolate. Having
supported Muse on their recent tour, they are set to take to the stage
ahead of the Stones in Hyde Park this Sunday.
Denise, 55, is set
to tie the knot with her boyfriend Lincoln Townley, 40, in Portugal on
Saturday and she will be given away by her father Vin and her youngest
son Louis will be an usher. Denise has lost nearly two stone in preparation for her wedding
She has lost nearly two stone ahead of her big day and said giving up the booze helped massively.
And she said it was easier than she thought it would be because she and Lincoln did it as a couple.
She told Hello! magazine: "We've said we couldn't have done it without one another, we were each other's anchor."
