'Glee' star Cory Monteith has been found dead at a hotel in Canada.

The 31-year-old, who played the character Finn Hudson in the TV series, was found dead in his room on the 21st floor of the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in Vancouver around noon on Saturday.

Deputy Police Chief Doug Lepard said there is no indication of foul play. The body of Monteith, who was dating co-star Lea Michele, was found by hotel staff after he missed his check-out time, Lepard said. “We do not have a great deal of information as to the cause of death,” Coroner Lisa Lapointe said.

Lepard said Monteith had been out with people earlier and that those people are being interviewed. Monteith voluntarily checked himself into rehab for substance abuse problems in April. The actor said during an interview in 2011 that he had been to rehab when he was 19.

Monteith was always open about his struggle with substance abuse and requested “privacy” in the steps towards recovery. Lea Michele had then said she was “proud” her boyfriend was seeking help in rehab and vowed to “stand by him” through the difficult time. “I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this,” she said at the time. “I am grateful and proud he made this decision.”

Following Monteith’s shocking and sudden death, Lea is in mourning. “We ask that everyone kindly respect Lea’s privacy during this devastating time,” a representative for the actress said. In interviews about his past, Monteith openly spoke about his addiction and hoped his honesty would help others.

The critically acclaimed show follows a group of American secondary school misfits who form the ‘glee club’ in their quest for singing contest glory. Monteith played the school’s star quarter-back who risked rejection by his team comrades to join the glee club.

Stars pay tribute to Monteith

Taylor Swift -- who briefly dated Monteith in 2010 -- led the tributes, writing on Twitter: ‘Speechless. And for the worst reason.’ Rihanna tweeted: “Cory Monteith, may your spirit be at peace, and may you fly with the angels... Heartbreaking, my prayers are with all of his loved ones!”

Neil Patrick Harris, who won an Emmy for his guest role on the show, said, “How sad to read about Cory Monteith passing away. What a shame. He was a lovely, kind, talented guy and will be missed.”

Mark Sailing, who plays best friend Puck on the show, simply tweeted the word “No”.
